Springin’ into Full Bloom
The first day of Spring is March 20th– we are SO close! This month, liveliness is coming back to us- the days are getting longer, Daylight Saving gives us even more sunlight, and soon the earth will blossom with color again. This winter I really leaned into slowing down and doing calm activities. The short days made it easy to live a slower paced lifestyle and I was even able to cut back on work a little bit too, which was so nice.
BUT I’m incredibly excited to turn off my heat, leave my windows open, hear the birds chirping and watch life fill with color once again. This spring, I’m choosing to re-shift my focus on intention, curiosity, and imperfections once again (these were my words of the year for my vision board project back in January, which you can read here).
Adventures
Generally (and we all know) winter is a struggle for me to want to leave home and go out to explore. I majorly dislike getting all bundled up with layers and layers of clothes. All I want to do is stay cozied up in some blankets and hibernate the season away. The temperatures are rising now and I’m ITCHING to go out and do things. Here are some adventures I’m looking forward to planning this spring by myself and/or with my friends + family:
- Visit a butterfly garden
- Visit a botanical garden
- Visit an art museum
- Find out when local farmers markets begin
- Attend one local event
- Watch a sunset
- First bonfire of the year
- Picnic at the park
Home
I can’t wait to feel the breeze flowing in through open windows, with outside life filling the silence (other than having Friends on as background noise). I choose to love my space so much that it gives me a sense of relief every time I walk through the door- clean and organized, full of color and fresh air! Here some ways that I’m choosing to love my home this season:
- Host a game night with friends
- Garden planning for the year – herbs, cut flowers, basic produce that I buy every week
- Decorate for spring
- Buy a new indoor plant (vining pothos variegated)
- Declutter + clean – make a trip to goodwill to donate
- Make spring recipes (lunches, desserts, mocktails) – might start a little social media series
- Decorate balcony oasis – bigger and better than my starting out efforts last year
- Declutter + organize garage
Create
A handful of months ago, I dug out my art supplies and started some projects to get back in touch with my creativity again. I hand embroidered some sweatshirts for my grandmas for Christmas. I made some hand stitched felt star ornaments for my cousins for Christmas. I actually started AND FINISHED my first vision board ever in January. Here are some projects that I’m looking forward to starting AND FINISHING this spring:
- Make spring magnets (working on smiley faces now)
- Paint terra cotta pots
- Make paper butterfly garland
- Daisy felt garland
- Make handmade cards to have on hand and send out (birthdays, thank yous, empowerment just because, thinking of you)
Self Care
It’s not always about the facials, massages, and bubble baths. Sometimes it’s about doing things that make your life easier, even if you really dislike doing them. Some of my self care musts for spring aren’t included because not everything needs to be out on the internet, but I’ll let you have these ones:
- Monthly Pedicures- Serving and bartending means lots of steps every day and it’s going to get busier with summer coming up, my feet deserve some TLC too.
- Clean out car + get a car wash
- Buy a new pair of sunnies
- Lavender spring simmer pot
- Join a volleyball league
Picking Up the Pace
Life’s about to become more full for a lot of us. It’s so important to remember our basics, especially when life speeds up- balanced eating habits, enough water, movement, gratitudes, and affirmations are some of my top priorities. One of my seasonal jobs starts back up again next month. I’m choosing to be outside more this year and have a flourishing garden all summer long. I choose to make this my best year yet.
I challenge you to spend some time thinking about how you choose to experience life this year!
